What is TRiO?
TRiO is an Educational Opportunity for Low-Income and Disabled Americans.
Under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, Congress established the Trio programs to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.
TRiO programs focus on early intervention to help each student understand and recognize their career options
TRiO programs serve students that come from low-income and first-generation families. Today the TRiO programs are offered in over 1,000 university, colleges, community colleges and agencies that serve more than 866,000 Americans.
