Haskell Celebrating World Cup with the Summer of Soccer Native American Events

Haskell Indian Nations University will join the Lawrence community this summer in celebrating the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a series of events highlighting Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.

Sponsored by Haskell, the Summer of Soccer Native American Events are free and open to the public and are intended to welcome both local residents and visitors to Lawrence during the international tournament.

The celebration begins with the Indigenous World Market on June 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Haskell Powwow Grounds, 2552 W. Perimeter Road. The event will feature Native artists, vendors, and opportunities to support Indigenous businesses.

On June 24 from 6 to 10 p.m., the Powwow Grounds will host Powwow on the Pitch, bringing together community members and visitors for an evening celebrating Indigenous culture.

Throughout June and July, Haskell will also host Friday Facts: An Exploration of History and Culture at Stidham Union, 2423 Barker Avenue. Presentations will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will feature Haskell faculty, staff, and community members sharing their knowledge on topics ranging from university history to tribal courts.

July 10: Osage Research with Dr. Tai Edwards (11 a.m.) and Importance of Tribal Courts with Layatalati Hill (2 p.m.)

As communities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico celebrate the FIFA World Cup, Haskell is proud to be part of Lawrence’s efforts to welcome visitors and share the rich cultures and histories of Indigenous peoples.
