Student Orientation

Haskell University entrance

We’re excited to welcome all the incoming students and help get you settled in. You belong here! As you prepare for your transition to Haskell, this short Orientation Welcome video has been prepared to offer an overview of what to expect.

Overall, the most up-to-date information can be found on the Fall Orientation page, but below (scroll down) we offer an overview of important dates and requirements for orientation, on-campus housing, and advising/enrollment for Fall 2026 to help you feel ready and supported.

As a reminder, orientation is mandatory this yearand since we have a growing list of students who are on a housing wait list, if you are not present at orientation and we have not heard from you, you risk losing your reserved housing spot to other students on the housing wait list. Please contact orientation@haskell.edu if you have unique circumstances that will make it difficult to make it to campus on time for orientation. Please contact registrar@haskell.edu if you’re plans for attending Haskell this Fall have changed.

Looking forward to welcoming everyone next week!

Haskell Orientation Details:

Guidebook App: Please download the Guidebook app. This app will be used to communicate all programing throughout orientation. After downloading the app, search for “Haskell New Student” to find the information you need.

Accessing the Student Portal: The Haskell Student Portal has critical information for you related to enrollment and housing. You have been emailed login information to assist you in access to the portal. If you are having trouble getting access or do not have portal information in your email, students can email registrar@haskell.edu.

Student Ambassadors: Haskell’s Student Ambassadors are some of our best and brightest campus leaders, and they will be here to welcome you to the Haskell family throughout the entire week. You will meet them early in the orientation process, and they will be available to answer any questions as you progress through the week.

Housing and Check-In: New students approved for on-campus housing can check in with their residence hall starting at 8 am on Monday, August 24, and can move in throughout the day. Student will then be able to check-in for orientation between 1-4 pm at Stidham, and get at student ID at Pontiac between 3-4 pm (for late arrivals on Monday, students will also have opportunities to check in at Stidham and get their ID’s at Pontiac the following morning, Tuesday Aug, 25). Transfer students can move in on Wednesday, August 26, and there will be a special session dedicated to Transfer students at 2 pm on Thursday, August 27th (check Guidebook App for details).

Housing staff will be available at the front desk of each residential building ready to receive students.  Students should check their student portals to identify which building they have been assigned to.  If a student doesn’t have access to their student portal at this time they should email registrar@haskell.edu. After checking in, Housing will simply refer students to their Guidebook app for all details related to events and scheduling.

For questions about housing, contact Haskell.housing@haskell.edu.

Check here for information about Residential Hall (on-campus housing): Housing | Haskell Indian Nations University

Off-Campus Students: If you are a new off-campus student not planning to live in the dorms, you will simply need to check in at Stidham Union at the stated times.

Advising + English and Math Placement: Academic advisors have been reaching out to new students via email or phone to assist with enrollment. You should have received a self-assessment survey for English placement from english@haskell.edu; please check your spam/junk folder if you don’t find it and complete this survey asap. To request a new survey, email english@haskell.edu. Students who haven’t taken the ALEKS Math Placement exam can do so during Orientation at designated times. If you are within driving distance and would like to take the ALEKS Math Placement, contact cgayler@haskell.edu.

Before you arrive on campus for orientation, you have the optional opportunity to practice the ALEKS Math Placement Test from home. You are not required to complete this practice test, but it can help you become familiar with ALEKS and identify areas you may want to review before taking the official placement test on campus.

To access the optional practice test:

  1. Go to aleks.com and create an account.
  2. You may use your haskell.edu email address if you have already set it up. If not, you may use a personal email address.
  3. When prompted for a class code, enter: ARAEY-F3YC9
  4. Complete the ALEKS assessment.

The assessment has a three-hour time limit, although most students will not need the full three hours. Calculator use is encouraged.

After you complete the practice assessment, we strongly encourage you to use the ALEKS learning modules. These modules are tailored to your individual test results and provide practice in the areas where ALEKS identifies opportunities for improvement. Working through the modules before orientation can help you prepare for the official placement test.

Please note: This practice placement test is completely optional, and your result is not an official placement score. All students will still need to take the official ALEKS Math Placement Test in person when they arrive on campus during orientation week.

If you have any questions about the practice test or the placement process, please email cgayler@haskell.edu.
