Get Help

Get to a safe place
Once you are in a safe place, talk to someone you trust about the incident. This could be a friend, a family member, or a trusted employee.

Ways to get help

  • Talk with a close friend or family member. A lot of times they can provide support by listening and encouraging you to find resources to help.
  • Talk to a confidential advocate. The Sexual Trauma & Abuse Care Center of Lawrence is a 24/7 resource for community members who experience sexual assault. Their advocates work closely with local universities and provide services to the public. The 24/7 hotline number is (785) 330-9198. Haskell Indian Nations University also has an advocate from the Care Center who is available to help in person when needed. Vincent Hampton (they/them) can be reached by request from the hotline or at vincent@stacarecenter.org.
  • Talk to the Campus Advocate Coordinator. The amount of information you share is always your choice. We can assist with medical care, counseling services, academic resources, and help you think through the best next steps. Kylee Fiedler can be reached by email, kfiedler@haskell.edu OR campusadvocate@haskell.edu, by phone (785) 813-8808, in person Tommaney Library, room 120, or by filling out the Haskell Sexual Misconduct Reporting Form:

Remember, there are multiple support resources you can reach out to for assistance with making a decision about whether to:

  • seek medical attention
  • report to law enforcement, and/or
  • file a formal complaint with the university.
